SEVIS Performance Issues Update

September 17, 2013

Last Thursday, September 12, 2013,  the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) announced that it is aware that SEVIS is continuing to experience performance issues which may affect schools fulfilling their federal reporting requirements this fall [Broadcast Message 1309-04].  As a result, SEVP authorized a limited extension of reporting requirements as follows:

  • Reporting of continuing students: 60 days from Next Session Start Date
  • Reporting of initial students: 60 days from Program Start Date
  • Completion of transfer-in: 45 days from Program Start Date

The announcement emphasized that these extensions do not relieve schools of their regulatory record-keeping requirements, but only affect the amount of time given to reflect this information in SEVIS.  During this time schools remain subject to out-of-cycle review and later could be required to produce academic records as proof of adherence to regulatory requirements.

For all other issues where SEVIS performance has prevented schools from fulfilling their reporting requirements, SEVP opened Master Ticket Number HD0000006765035.  Users who need records updated or corrected should reference this Master Ticket when submitting correction requests or opening Help Desk tickets.  This will allow SEVP to both expedite and track issues related to SEVIS performance.”
